Maryland Film Festival

This weekend Kelly and I went to the Maryland Film Festival 2006. We spent about 12 hours watching various movies. On Saturday we went to three different sets of shorts. The first was titled connections, then the second set was from the Black Maria film festival and the last was Avant-Garde shorts. Each set had 8-10 shorts ranging in length from 5 to 35 minutes. Some of the shorts ranged for way out there to really touching and informative. Two that I really enjoyed included Reporter Zero that was about the author of the book And the Band Played On and the Tribe which is about Jewish heritage with a large dash of Barbie and pop culture.

On Sunday we went to a little more traditional fare. The day began with a secret screening. We had no idea what we were going to see other than it was promised to be a summer hit. I was figuring possibly a big summer movie like Clerks 2 or Snakes on a Plane. Now since I signed a NDA agreement I can't say much about the film. All I will say is it comes out July 28th, you most likely have never heard of it and it is hilarious. The second film we saw was The Lady from Sockholm. It was a movie entirely of sock puppets. It was ok, but was probably about 2 times too long. It would have been good as a 20 min short, but as an almost full length movie it dragged quite a bit. The last movie we saw was called Hamilton. It was filmed very close to where I live right now. It was an almost silent film, more about the locations and cinematography than dialogue. Not my usual fare but it was pretty good.

It was a fun weekend, lots and lots of movies.
