Day 1 actually is a little slow in the morning. The Keynote isn’t until 10 AM so not much happening before then. I got some breakfast which was a usual TechEd setup. The one change I noticed this year was that you have to get your own utensils instead of them being at the table, I assume that saves staffing costs. The only problem was that I couldn’t find a knife, as a result I had to use a coffee stirrer as a knife to spread my peanut butter on the bagel. I had some good fruit and yogurt though.

Remember how I said it was good that I was near the food from my hotel, well that was only today. Apparently they setup a special meal location just for today to go with the keynote location. The breakfast was usual fare, eggs, bacon, fruit and bagels. I tried to find a good table to sit at but failed. No real conversation at the table. Hopefully later meals will be more successful.
Well I had to mention one more thing. Today I found trail mix and raw almond bags. I must say the variety of snacks, especially with respect to nutrition is much better this year. My compliments to the organizers.
Well it seems I may have spoken too soon on the between session snacks. This year there is a large selection of fruit. It is joined by snack size packs of carrots or celery sticks and dip. Also there is a bunch of baked variety of Frito Lay products as well as the Snack Wells brand of light cookies.
I may be able to stick with goal of not totally being crushed under junkfood. We will see.
You can't talk about TechEd and not mention the food. Even on the first day just for registration the tables are out and piled high. There is just an amazing amount of food and drinks out. Unfortunately it is almost all junk food from the Hostess or Frito Lay line and soda from Pepsi it seems this year. However if you look you can find fruit and juice. I am going to try to lean toward juice this year, we will see.
I would love to see the stats on the qantity of food at TechEd, both normal meals and snacks. I still speculate that a vast majority of the fee to attend is for food and parties, but I may be imaging that.
The only downside to all this junk food is the wrappers left over. In the wireless area near registration most people it seems are just leaving their trash piled high on the tables. Common courtesy people come on, others shouldn't have to clean up your trash to have a place to sit and work.
