Odds and Ends 2

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

Yesterday I got a call that my chairs are in. Luckily the place I bought them from will hold them while I finish the basement. I also ordered the remaining lights for in the ceiling. I also ordered some step lights to put in the riser. To go along with the step lights I decided I will use a motion and ambient light switch. That way the lights won't need to be controlled by my dimmer.

I also ordered a bunch of 15 and 20 amp receptacles. I ordered them online so I could get black ones and no screw wall plates. Hopefully they look nice.

I am still looking at fabric, hard to decide. I may need some real help from my mom.

Odds and Ends

On Monday the 14th I ordered my chairs for the theater. I ordered 6 Berkline 090 power recline chairs from The Big Screen Store. They should come in sometime around Thanksgiving, deadline.

Last night I ordered my sconces. I also ordered the lighting controls for the entire basement. I ordered a Lutron GRAFIK Eye 3000 and an entry control. The last pieces to get are the actual lights. I am looking at some Halo recessed lighting, just need to decide what I want exactly. I need recessed lighting since my ceilings are so low.

Well it seems that my estimates for lumber were pretty good. I might need just a few more 2"x4"x8' but hopefully I can just chop up some of the longer ones I got and haven't needed.

The next steps are insulation and electrical work.

Waterproofing

Well I had the waterproofing company come out tonight. You can read the details here if you want. As it relates to the basement the short version is I am not doing what they suggested. I am instead going with and idea my dad suggested. It is to put a large kick board or floor rail of 6-8" in height around the outer wall. This way I can easily remove it and get at the wall if I need to without having to rip out sheetrock.

It is an interesting idea and I will try to refine it as my project progresses. The addition I came up with is some moisture or water sensors. I could run them under the floor and place them around the room. This way I would know if there was an issue and do something about it using the nifty gap I have created.

Dad's Advice

My parents came down on July 23-24. As far as the basement goes my dad and I discussed some of my plans and tried to figure out what I was going to do. Most of the time was spent with him telling me I am nuts and going to create imense amount of work. My response repeatedly was that I wanted to do it right to begin with so I wouldn't regret it later. His usual response was perfection is great but it is really expensive and hard.

We talked about my electrical hopes. We also debated the need to pull down the center stud wall. Lastly we talked about the tile in my basement and if I should worry about removing it.

Revision One Plans

These really aren't revision one since I have been working on them for over a month. I will call them such though since they are first I have released to others. This one is with furniture and this one is more wiring. I wrote up a great deal of my thinking in a post at AVS Forum. The short version is I want to build a Home Theater with a 720P LCD projector, a 101" Screen, my existing speakers (which I love), my exisiting reciever and 6 really cool seats. I plan to finish the rest of the basement as well.
